Flavor Materials International traces its beginnings to Interbahm International Founded in 1967, Interbahm’s mission was to supply high quality citrus oils and other specialty ingredients to the domestic and international beverage industry.
In 1984, a separate division, P&K Flavor Company, was added to expand the company’s capabilities by supplying finished flavors to customers in the beverage, confection, chewing gum and baked goods industries. By 1990, the specialty savory and snack flavor division further diversified our product lines. In 1992, Flavor Materials International was officially established to consolidate our operating companies. This expanded our main production facility to a self contained 40,000 square foot site with administration, purchasing and production as well as our creative flavor development and applications departments. The expanded facility contains all departments such as, R&D, Sales, QA/QC and Production. This enables commitment to meeting our customer’s needs. Our continuous operation since 1967, combined with an ever-expanding offering of products and services is a testament to our stability and dedication to meeting customer demands worldwide. During this time, we have built a diverse team of experts with many years of technical experience in the food and flavors industries.
In 2000 FMI purchased Artech International, a specialty citrus ingredient processor with proprietary technology. This 12,500 square foot facility is located in Carlstadt, NJ, and is approximately 25 miles north of the main plant. The strategic acquisition of this high-tech manufacturing facility added capabilities for production of folded and Hydrocarbon-Free essential oils. This acquisition was the last step in vertical integration from raw materials to concentrated flavors.
In 2007 Flavor Materials International expanded operations internationally. We opened our first offices in San Pedro Sula, Honduras to better serve the Central American markets. In 2010 construction began on an elaborate 10,000 square foot facility in the heart of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The newly constructed facility features administrative offices, QC, blending and refrigerated storage. In 2011 the SMG facility became operational as a production site and began assisting its sister facilities in meeting increasing international product demands.
